Aldeia da Luz

In 2002 the New Aldeia da Luz (Light Village) was inaugurated, built at about 2km from the previous Aldeia da Luz, that was flooded by the waters of the great Alqueva Reservoir.

The new village was recreated and provided its 350 residents a new home, including copies of the houses, the church, the bullring and even the former football field.
The new village also has a Museum in order to preserve the memory of the former village, displaying archaeological vestiges found in the now flooded area, and a big ethnographic collection.
