Convento de Mafra - Arte Sacra

Mafra - Mafra

Built by D. João V in 1711, is the most sumptuous convent and Portuguese Baroque monument. The monument is part of the so-called Joanino baroque, and is inspired on the Spanish and Philippine model of S. Lourenço do Escurial. The site has an harmonious relationship of three distinct components - the royal palace, the monastery and church. In the northern part of the monument we can find the collection of Sacred Art, wich holds objects such as reliquaries and lamps, as well as models of the sculptures of the Mafra School of Sculpture. The entrance to this amazing collection of religious art is the same as the Mafra Royal Palace.
