Meimoa Roman Bridge

Penamacor

Information

This old bridge is located over the Meimoa River, and quite close to the Meimoa settlement, at about 12 km from the departments headquarters, Penamacor.

Supposedly this granite bridge, popularly named as “Roman Bridge” would have been built between the 14th and 16th centuries.
Nevertheless, a previous construction would have been erected in this place, dating from the Roman occupancy period of the region, that would have integrated the road from Capinha to Benquerença.

This Bridge is constituted by a ramp roadway, sustained by nine arches with different dimensions.
