The region of Vila do Bispo’s department, on the western side of the Algarve, presents an human occupancy since ancient pre-historical times, as one can observe in the circa ten megalithic monuments that exist in the area, such as the Padrão Menhir.
The set probably consisted of fifteen menhirs that supposedly were in its origin a Cromlech that was later destroyed.

The set probably dates somewhere in between the upper Neolithic and the Chalcolithic period, during the 4th and 3rd millennium b. C..

Nearby are situated the Milreu Menhirs, in a total of 25 exemplars, sculpted in the region’s calcareous rocks.
