Ria Formosa Natural Park

Faro

Information

The Ria Formosa Natural Park has a stretch of 60km, from Ancão (Loulé) to Manta Rota (Vila Real de Santo António) and occupies an area of about 18.600 hectares.
Beyond the evident beauty of the fauna, flora, the variety of its ecosystems and for its singular location, the Ria Formosa is also an important source of wealth, especially for Olhão (where the headquarters of the natural park is situated), since here are explored the salt marshes, where the Clams are cultivated and is also the place where several tasty fish live.
The landscape of this Natural Park is quite diversified due to the channels formed under the influence of the different sea and river tides, that certainly provide idyllic landscapes, with dunes, islands and unique channels.
