Ponte Lima Bridge

Ponte Lima

Information

Situated over the beautiful Lima river, in the amazing Ponte de Lima village, considered to be the most ancient village in the Country, this charming monument is the symbol of the village.

Like the village, also this bridge has quite ancient origins, and is nowadays formed by two different fragments: a Roman and a Medieval.

It is thought that the Roman part of the bridge was built on the 1st century a.C., and the Medieval one, with Gothic features, would have been concluded in 1370.
The Roman part is constituted by seven irregular arches and the Gothic by seventeen pointed arches, with about 4 meters width and 300 meters long. Originally, the construction would have two towers, demolished in the 19th century.
