The beautiful Vila Formosa’s Roman Bridge is situated over the Seda stream, next to the Vila Formosa village, in Alter do Chão, in the vast Alentejo region.

This is a Roman construction dated from that occupancy period that still keeps its activity nowadays and also the road traffic that links Alter do Chão to Chança and Ponte de Sôr.
The bridge would have been built in the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century a.C..

The structure is constituted by six arches, with a roadway of 116,5 meters length for 6,70 meters width.

The Vila Formosa’s Roman bridge is classified as a National Monument since the 16th June 1910.
