Ria de Alvor

Portimão

Information

Ria de Alvor is a place blown by beauty, privileged for fishing and creation of molluscs, in a place still not ruin by tourism development.
The protected area of Ria do Alvor is situated in between Alvor, Mexilhoeira Grande, igueira and Odiáxere and has around 1400 hectares. To one side the sea, to the other the liquid mirror of the vast estuary stretching inland, and between them a long, broad dune: the landscape is constituted by grey dunes, beaches and estuaries, agricultural lands, mud and sands uncovered in the low tides, courses of permanent water, salty pine and alluvium areas, where species and habitats of communal interest find their shelter.
The magic the Ria do Alvor comes in the end of the day, with the gorgeous light of dawn, in tones of red, silver and purple, that enchants those who contemplate it.
