Ribeiro Frio



Ribeiro Frio is a small village in the Santana department, on the astonishing Madeira Island, located on a place of great natural beauty, right in the heart of the Laurissilva Forest, classified by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage. Here one can access some of the famous “Levadas”: the Furado, Serra or juncal Levadas.

On the Ribeiro Frio Forest Park inhabit many species of great interest, presenting as well some of the most memorable landscapes of the region, situated at about 860 meters high. The Ribeiro Frio’s governmental trout farm breeds many species of trouts, among them the Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykissWalbaum). This farm aims for the repopulation of the water lines of the Madeira region, with these species of trouts.
Hence, this Ribeiro Frio region presents the freshest trouts, prepared in the most diversified recipes, available in the many restaurants environs.
