Nossa Senhora do Sabroso Sanctuary

Located at about 3km distance from the beautiful Barcos village, the Nossa Senhora do Sabroso Sanctuary has quite ancient origins, housing even nowadays the vestiges of a protohistorical castro (hill fort), probably inhabited in the 1st century a.C..

The temple has one only nave and was probably built in the 13th century, enlarged later in the 17th century, keeping nevertheless its medieval features.
In the exterior several sepulcher covers can be found, proceeding from a cemetery which was annexed to the sanctuary.

The Nossa Senhora do Sabroso Sanctuary is filled with visitors every year on the last Sunday of May and on the 15th August, at the time of the Religious Festivities, which are famous for the Processions.
