The lovely São Sebastião village is located on the eastern coast of the wonderful Terceira Island, Azores Archipelago, filled with beauty, heritage and tradition.

When the Portuguese Succession crisis happened, in 1580, and the Spanish were about to get the throne, several fortification were built in order to protect the Island’s coast, among them the forts of Cavalas, Caninas, Salva, Greta, Santa Catarina das Mós, Bom Jesus, Pesqueiro dos Meninos, São Francisco and São Bernardo. In 1581 here happened the Salga Battle among Spanish forces that wanted to disembark and the Portuguese Forces that were against the union of Portugal with Spain.
For several centuries the village suffered several destructions with the many natural catastrophes that devastate the lovely Terceira Island, and lead to big emigration tendencies. São Sebastião suffered several reconstructions and conservation works throughout the years.

São Sebastião is proud of its heritage, with monuments such as the Mother Church, famous for its Manueline portals and the late-medieval frescos, or the Santa Ana, São João Baptista and Nossa Senhora da Graça Chapels or event the wonderful Salga and Salgueiros Natural Pools.
