Vila Fresca de Azeitão is a small village next to São Simão de Azeitão village, situated in the wonderful Arrábida Mountain Natural Park, in a region blessed by nature, chosen by the Nobility as a place of election throughout the centuries, establishing here Estates, Farms and Manor Houses of great beauty.

In fact, Vila Fresca de Azeitão developed around the Fresca Estate where nowadays is situated the wonderful Quinta da Bacalhoa Palace founded in the 15th century by the king D. João the 1st, being nowadays one of the highlights of the region.

This locality is famous for the beauty of the landscapes and the richness of its farms and fertile soils, in the landscape junction of the luxuriant mountain with the wide Atlantic ocean.

It is worth knowing the lovely São Simão Church founded by the Santiago Order in the 12th century (although the present building dates from the 16th century), or the lovely São Pedro de Alcube Chapel, the nearby 15th century Nossa Senhora das Necessidades Chapel and, of course, the wonderful Quinta da Bacalhoa from the 16th century, considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Country.
Many other “Quintas”, manor houses and estates of the region are worth to be mentioned like the Duques de Aveiro Renaissance Palace, the Quintas of Baldrucas, Bassagueira, Má Partilha or the Palhavã, among many others.

Since 1723 the typical Festivities of Nossa Senhora da Saúde, congregating a large number of activities.

The region is also quite famous for its regional products, a result of the fertile soils that help produce the famous Cheeses, the much appreciated “Tortas de Azeitão” (delicious egg custard tarts with cinnamon) or the table Wines like the delightful “Piriquita” stock and the sweet Muscatel.
