Freiria Roman Villa Ruins

Polima - Cascais
Site

Information

Construction from the 2nd century, in Roman civil architecture style.
According to several researches, this was a "villa" or country-side residence of a very wealthy family, as concluded by the vestiges of the "domus", by the big agricultural area that encircled it and by the thermal complex that integrates the Villa.
The monumental granary can only be compared, in the Iberian Peninsula, to another copy in the Roman Villa of Monroy, nearby Cáceres, Spain.
The most recent archaeological excavations discovered a beautiful mosaic with characteristic drawings of the Roman culture.
