The Biscoitos Wine Museum is situated on the lovely village of Biscoitos, on the wonderful Terceira Island, Azores Archipelago.
Founded in 1990 by the Francisco Maria Brum Agricultural House, following the celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary, the Museum celebrates the most important heritage of the Biscoitos region: the vineyard and its main production.

In fact Biscoitos is a locality of great natural beauty, with a picturesque traditional architecture and a rich wine inheritance. The toponym of the village might come from the black basalt stones (the earth originated by the dry lava of the volcanoes) that in the archipelago is name as “biscoito” (biscuit) as an analogy to the bread that was used for the maritime journeys back in the Discoveries Era.
It is exactly this type of soil that allows great conditions for the vineyards, producing here the famous Azores Verdelho Wine that, it is said, was already consumed by the navigators in the Portuguese Discoveries.

This interesting Museum shows off the history of the wine production in the region and on the Island, and also the importance of the Verdelho caste throughout the centuries, housing as well a room dedicated to the ethnography of the region, with the many instruments and objects used through the years. The Museum also offers the Verdelho Wine Cellar, the Distillery, the wine-tasting room, the bottling room, the headquarters of the Biscoitos Verdelho Wine Confraternity, among other interesting amenities.
