Janeiro de Cima

Janeiro de Cima is a lovely small village nearby Fundão, situated in the Central region of Portugal, by the margins of the gorgeous and winding Zêzere river.

The village is part of a project named “Aldeias de Xisto” (Schist Villages), a project with preservation and disclosure purposes of such a great inheritance that is the traditional popular architecture.

Janeiro de Cima is situated in an area of great natural beauty, alongside with luxuriant mountains, pine tree forests, fertile valleys and historical points, combining the perfect conditions for the most diversified Tourist activities, as one can attest by the lovely Fluvial Beach.

The traditional architecture of Janeiro de Cima denotes the proximity and influence of the Zêzere river. Many houses have their walls built with big stones extracted from the Zêzere, forming lovely geometrical motifs.
