Santar is a lovely and noble small village in the Nelas department, located on the fertile Dão-Lafões region, proud owner of a charm heritage, and where the winegrowing marked the populations lifestyle.
This is a region of ancient human occupancy, with some archaeological vestiges denoting the Roman occupancy of the territory in long gone times, as well as some legacies of occupancy during the early medieval times.

Santar has been able to wisely maintain its wonderful architectonic heritage, where granite rules, with several Manor Houses throughout the region which show off the richness that these fertile soils have provided to the Land Lords, leaving a stately architectonic heritage, such as the Cunhas Palace (dated from 1690), or the amazing Soito Manor House (18th century), the Alameda Estate, the Fidalgas Manor House, the Conde de Santar House, the Santos Lima House, among many others.

This important winegrowing centre of the Dão region is proud of its ancient Mother Church, of the lovely Misericórdia Church, classified as a Public Interes Building (dated from 1637), of the São Francisco de Assis and the Senhora da Piedade Chapels, of the beautiful Cunhas Palace Gardens, among many other highlights which can be found throughout Santar region.
