One of the oldest villages of Portugal... two hills, a valley, the old white houses set in a slope, and a stunning landscape, along with an ancient and proud past.

We're in the heart of Baixo Alentejo, and the strangers who visit Aljustrel will look around and dazzle themselves with the wideness of the fields, the neverending landscapes, and the infinite horizon.

Aljustrel's ancient Roman name was Vipasca, and it was later called Al-Lustre by the arabs - from whom it was conquered in 1234 by D. Paio Peres Correia and the Knights of the Order of Santiago de Espada, in the reign of king Sancho II.

In the last two centuries, the mining industry developed intensely throughout the region, shaping it's habits and traditions.
