Arganil is a beautiful village from the Central region of Portugal, situates in a mountain side area of great beauty, with fertile vegetation and abundant water courses.

The region presents human occupancy vestiges since remote periods, like the Moinhos de Vento Necropolis, dated from the Cooper Age, or the Roman Military Campsite in Lomba do Canho.

Arganil is proud of its lovely heritage disperse in the own beauty of the village, with a gorgeous historic centre, with highlights like the São Pedro Chapel, the Misericórdia Church, the Senhor da Agonia Chapel or even the village’s Pillory.

At about 2 km distance from the centre is situated the lovely 16th century Nossa Senhora do Monte Alto Sanctuary, at about 500 meters high, with a delightful procession every 15th of August, attracting a large number of visitors.

There are several typical small mountain side villages in Arganil’s surroundings that are worth to be known, situated in the slopes and valleys of the lovely mountains of this region. Places like Vila Cova de Alva, Benfeita (integrated in an interesting program named “Schist Villages”), Coja, Malhada Chã, Barriosa or the astonishing Piódão small village, considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in the Country.
