Cabeço das Pombas Rupestrian Engravings

The Cabeço das Pombas Rupestrian Engravings are present in granite outcrop in the Pinheiros small village, in the lovely Tabuaço department.

These engravings are an artistic-religious manifestation of great importance. They probably date from the Bronze Age, nevertheless it symbolism remains unknown. Even so the images are certainly connected to some ceremonial act.

This would have been by then a cult place, even nowadays named as “Sanctuary”. The images are grouped by sets, made in different periods.
