Nossa Senhora dos Mártires Church

Situated next to the lovely Castro Marim Castle, in the Algarve, the Nossa Senhora dos Mártires is one of the main highlights of the beautiful Castro Marim village.

The present building was probably built over a previous 16th century chapel that, due to the big earthquake of 1755 and consequent destruction of the Mother Church of Santiago, got quite important and small for the large amount of followers. Therefore it was restored and enlarged, and concluded in 1834.

The Church presents an only nave and a huge vault, that is already the main symbol of the monument.
In the interior there are important images from the 16th and 17th centuries.
