Idanha-a-Velha's Roman Bridge

This ancient bridge situated over the lovely Pônsul river, in the historic village of Idanha-a-Velha, once an important Roman settlement that housed a large number of inhabitants, named as “Egitânia”.

This lovely bridge has Roman origins and was established on an important Roman territory, situated on the vital Road intersection that linked Merida (Emérita Augusta) and Braga (Bracara Augusta), two important Roman centres.

This granite Bridge is considered to be a Roman engineering master piece and is based upon pointed arches. The building has suffered several restorations mainly throughout the Middle Age.
