Nossa Senhora do Ó Church ( Águas Santas )

Maia

Information

Located on the lovely Águas Santas small village, in Maia department, the Nossa Senhora do Ó Church, classified as National Monument since 1910, is an interesting Romanesque monuments, important for presenting two naves.

The Church would have been part of a primitive Early-Christian Monastery or even Pre-Romanic, nowadays already vanished.

The main building would have small dimensions and was enlarged throughout the centuries, re-using several parts and elements, such as the late-roman capitals reused in the triumphal arch of the main chapel in the 12th century.

In fact, this Temple is one of the few examples where new areas are added, maintaining the previous ones, on a juxtaposition of styles and building influences.
