Paredes de Coura Ancient Bridge

Paredes de Coura

Information

Located in Rubiães, over the beautiful and crystalline Coura river, in the greenish Paredes de Coura region, this ancient bridge is usually named as “Roman”, “Medieval” or “Romanesque”.
The bridge’s origins are, therefore, unknown. Some say it would have been built in 50 b.C., yet the present monument was probably built over that previous structure during the Medieval Period and later had some conservation works.
The bridge would have been part of a Roman Road, that was later used in the Middle Ages and was part of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage roads.

The bridge is characterized by its three round arches, the central larger than the laterals, with a roadway with double ramp.
