Tunes

Silves

Information

Tunes is a small village in the Silves department, on the northern side of the Algarve region, situated in peaceful rural area, far from the touristic golden beaches of this region.

It is said that this territory was many centuries ago inhabited by Muslims from Tunis, in Tunisia.

Tunes is a peaceful village that was developed after the railway construction as it is situated in the intersection of the South line, linking the North of the country and the international lines with Silves or Faro. In fact, the agitation in the Tunes station is quite visible, with people from all over the world travelling to the crystalline waters and golden sands of the Algarve coast, contrasting with the quietness of the village’s streets.

Tune is nowadays a sort of village-dormitory for the many workers of the nearby tourist centres in the Algarve, such as Albufeira.
