Columbeira's Castro

The Columbeira Castro is an ancient Hill Fort situated in the Roto Valley, nearby Columbeira, in Bombarral region.

This fortification was discovered back in 1962 and probably dates from the Cooper Age and is located in a privileged area, from where other contemporary settlements could be seen from, like the São Mamede Hill Fort.

This Cloister had probably an afterwards occupancy, during the Bronze Age.
Not much of the original settlement is left nowadays, yet one can observe the walls line, and at least six turrets, at the top of a small dimensions peak, named as “Castelo Mountain”, and it is also possible to observe the entrance into the main hall.
