Mogadouro

Mogadouro is an ancient locality, anterior to the Portuguese County foundation (868). Its previous name had a probably Arabic origin: “Macaduron”.

Since the foundation of the Portuguese nationality that the strategic importance of Mogadouro has been shown, not only in the defensive structures of the region, but also with other monuments such as palaces and manor houses.

The main highlights in Mogadouro are the Castle, a national monument from the 17th century, the Penas Roias Castle that was propriety of the Templar Order, and the São Francisco Convent, dated probably from the 16th century. Also, the many churches, chapels and manor houses classified as Public Interest Buildings can be seen in the region.
