Montemor-o-Velho
This region has had agricultural influence for centuries, specialized in the production of rice and corn.
With a strategic defensive location, the Montemor-o-Velho Castle is the most important monument in the city, but other interesting sights are worth to be known, like the locality of Santa Olaia and its archaeological vestiges, or the historical centres of Montemor-o-Velho, Pereira and Tentúgal.
Located in a natural privileged region, the Fauna and Flora of the region are also quite rich and important, as it is possible to observe in the Paúl da Arzila Natural Reserve, as well as in the Paúl do Taipal, presenting an valuable bird habitat.
This region is also quite rich in what concerns to its traditional Gastronomy, with several river food dishes, some game meat and a special kind of cornbread: the “broa”. The pastry of the region is quite appreciated, with the conventual Tentúgal pastries, among other specialities, mainly based on eggs and sugar.
