Aguiar da Beira
This is a region occupied by men since pre-historical times, with an important heritage, like the Carapito Dolmen dated from the Neolithic Period, the anthropomorphic sarcophagus and sepulchres of the region, the Hill Forts, vestiges of settlements from the chalcolithic period, such as the one in Gralheira, or the Abelhas Hill Fort, among many others worth to be known.
Probably the medieval Caste of the village was built over a pre-existent hill fort, occupied by Moors.
Aguiar da Beira is proud of its heritage, like what is left of the castle, the wall and the romanic adjacent chapel, as well as the São Pedro Mother Church (nowadays in ruins), and the Parish Church of Santo Eusébio, and the Misericórdia Church (18th century), along with other monuments such as the Romanesque Ameada Fountain, the 15th Watch tower or the Manueline Pillory.
Nearby is located the Cavaca Thermal Complex, in Crotiçada, in a place filled with peace of mind and tranquillity, famous because of the therapeutic qualities of its medicinal waters.
Aguiar da Beia is also famous for the fertility of its soil, cultivated since remote times, and producer of renowned fruit and vegetables, mainly apples, potatoes and chest-nuts.
