guide to visit

Olhão

Olhão is essentially a fishermen town. Distinctive because of its islands, many of them only frequented in summer time, one can also find in Olhão a gorgeous promenade with a marvellous view over the Ria Formosa.
In Olhão region one can find not only fantastic beaches but also the best seafood of the Algarve (actually, it is in Olhão that the biggest Seafood Festival in Portugal takes place!).
The old quarters of the town (like Barreta or Levante) with its narrow typical streets, are an obligatory visit once in Olhão.
Worth a visit are also the two Municipal Markets (one for fish and seafood, and another one for fruit and vegetables), built in 1915 and recently restored, perfect for a relaxed walk in the end of the day.
